AUXCOMM is term used to refer to the Auxiliary Emergency Communications role within the Incident Command System (ICS) that is used during emergency situations like Hurricane Sandy to manage the incident. AUXCOMM members serve at local, state and national levels during these type incidents.

Members of AUXCOMM are amateur radio operators who come from organizations like the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES(tm)), Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS), and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) who want to serve as Auxiliary Emergency Communicators. You are not required to be a member of one of these organizations to participate in AUXCOMM. However, you are required to pass four basic ICS training courses provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to participate. Please review the mandatory NIMS training page for more information.
